In fixing wet basements,
the first step is to identify the source of the problem.
For, without knowing where the water is coming in, you
can’t determine how best to alleviate it. Water
can enter your basement in several ways. It could be
seeping in through window wells, it could be ground
water collecting and seeping in foundation walls, or
it could even be moisture in the soil itself infiltrating
the concrete because of hydrostatic pressure.
For wet basements,
interior waterproofing solutions or usually the best
way to go because they seek to manage the water problem,
not try to completely stop it. Trying to completely
stop water is a futile effort at best, so management
is the logical solution. Now, if you do have a standing
groundwater problem, then you may need to implement
both and exterior solution such as a French drain along
with a good interior system like drain tile and a sump
pump.

requires the experience of a skilled waterproofing
contractor. A professional waterproofing specialist
can inspect your home, determine the source of the
water, and assist you in making an informed decision
for managing that water. If you try to construct one
of these systems yourself, without the proper know
how, you could end up causing more damage than already
existed. So, it is best to utilize the services of
someone who has the experience and the skill necessary.
