Sump
Pumps
Only Half the Battle
Sump pumps are used to
help alleviate water in your basement. However, they
are only part of the equation. Without a proper system
to get the water to the pump, the pump will be of no
use to you.
Basement sump pumps turn
on when water reaches a certain level at the pump. There
are three types of sump pumps.
- Submersible – Has a watertight motor that
can be immersed in water.
- Pedestal – Has an open motor that is supported
on top of a column attached to the pump casing.
The motor sits outside the sump and sits above
the basement floor.
- Water Powered – These basement
sump pumps do not use electricity,
they are powered by using water pressure.
But, if the water in your basement isn’t
directed properly towards the pump, it will not kick
on and you will still have a wet basement.
So, how do you get water to sump
pumps? There are several different ways to
properly solve a wet basement problem, and since every
home is constructed differently, the solution that works
for one home may not be the right one for you. A waterproofing
professional can inspect your home and determine what
might be best for you.
Sump pumps can be a useful tool
in the waterproofing of your basement. But they are
just that, only a tool and not a complete solution
in and of themselves.
