Sump
Pump Backup Power
Sump pump backup
power is an important part of any sump pump
system. How do you provide backup power for your sump
pump? To start with, make sure the sump pump
backup system is from the same manufacturer
as the primary sump pump. This is important to keep
from having malfunctions when you least need them (i.e.
stormy, rainy, middle of the night). Backup power is
usually provided by a marine battery that can kick on
in the event of a power failure. But, just having backup
power is not enough. What if the first pump fails or
can’t handle the water volume?
A sump and backup
pump system should have a second sump
pump. If water levels reach a certain level the second
pump kicks on whether or not the first pump is running.
A battery-powered
sump pump as your backup sump gives you complete
protection in the event of power outage, main pump failure
or too much water for one pump to handle by itself.
Monthly maintenance is also
important. It’s a good idea to pour water in
the sump tub to make sure the sump pump backup
power is working properly. It’s better
to find out that there’s a problem before you
need it than to find out when you need it the most.
If the system is not removing the water properly,
check to make sure lines are not clogged with any
debris and that the pump is running smoothly. If your
system has a problem you can’t solve yourself,
get someone who knows what they’re doing to
check it out right away.
