Interior
Basement Waterproofing - Is It Better?

Q:
"I had a contractor recommend an interior basement
waterproofing system for my leaky basement problems.
A friend had recommended doing the work from the outside,
but this seems to make sense. Is it a better way to
go?"
A: Interior basement waterproofing systems are
always a recommended approach when repairing a wet basement.
First, look at the downfalls of doing the repairs from
the outside:
- Major disruption
to your home. The ground outside must be dug up.
- Anything
near your foundation must be removed and replaced. This
includes decks, sidewalks, landscaping, porches, and
driveways.
- Very
expensive - typically can cost $15-20,000,
depending on the size of your home and the amount of
work being done.
- Very limited
Warranty - typically one year at best.
Interior basement
waterproofing is much quicker, much cheaper, and much
less disruptive. These systems are designed to take care
of your wet basement with the least amount of interference
to your current living situation.
