The Problem With Clogged Draintile

Monday, November 24th, 2008

When your home was built, a drainage system was put under ground around the perimeter of your home.  This system is a flexible pipe called draintile.

Over the years - as water washes through the draintile, dirt and debris start to build up on the inside.  Not only that but the dirt that was packed on top of the draintile is heavy and has crushed the piping over time.

What you are left with is a drainage system that has failed you - resulting in a flooded basement.

Clogged draintile can be “unclogged” by flushing the pipes out but this will not correct the problem permanently.  Dirt and debris will still be washed through your draintile and will eventually build up again.

There are other options for basement drains that are still beneath your basement floor and do not clog with dirt or debris.  Click here TODAY to find out more!

Would A Concrete Sealer Fix Your Basement Water Damage?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

basement water damage

In this picture you can see water damage to the home owners basement walls and floors.   There are actual wet spots and a white powder called efflorescence - which is caused by water moving through the wall, bringing out salts that are not ordinarily part of the cement stone.  The salt dries and you are left with the powder.

You may think that using a concrete sealer on your basement walls or floors will stop water from entering and solve all your wet basement problems… and it might temporarily.

Trying to correct your wet basement problems yourself can actually do you more harm than good.  For example, did you know that using a concrete sealer can actually trap the water behind the walls, causing the water to build up and put MORE PRESSURE on the walls… which in turn causes new cracks and leaks.

Your best option is to have a Professional Inspector come out and do a no cost evaluation of your basement.  They can then tell you the best options for your particular situation and prevent any further damage.
