Gutters

Basement waterproofing products such as gutters installed on your home can help collect and remove water from around your foundation if they drain correctly. If you simply let the water disperse right at your foundation, you aren’t doing your foundation and basement any good. Make sure your gutters empty their water far enough away and at a low enough point so the water will flow away from your foundation instead of into it. If your gutters aren’t doing the job they should your should probably get some to take a look at them to make sure they aren’t clogged or leaking. If necessary, have the downspouts extended so the water gets away from the basement.

Exterior Excavation

Basement waterproofing materials are not the central solution when exterior excavation is performed. More important is constructing a proper slope so that water will flow away from the foundation instead of into it. The solution to this is to excavate around the foundation, sealing the exterior walls of the foundation and creating proper grading around the foundation. While this is an effective solution it can also be quite expensive. Obviously this isn’t something you should be tackling yourself.
