Concrete
Waterproofing
Concrete waterproofing
is a major issue to many home owners. Do you have water
in your basement, and if so, where is it coming from?
Have you checked your walls, or the floor.? If your
basement is finished, it may be necessary to check behind
the drywall or under the finished floor or carpet to
see if either of these is the point of entry for the
water. This is especially important in a finished basement,
because water can lead to mold, mildew and even bugs.
All of these can cause significant damage to your finished
basement.
Have you thought about
using a concrete sealer for your concrete waterproofing
method? These are great solution to stop the water for
a little while, but they are not a permanent solution.
The best idea is to find the source of the water and
implement a permanent solution. So, you may be wondering
why a sealer, especially one that claims to be waterproof
is not such a good idea. Concrete waterproofing
sealers only stop the water from getting past
where they are applied. In this case, you would be applying
the sealer to the interior walls. This will do nothing
to stop the water from getting in from the exterior
of the wall and infiltrating the concrete. The sealer
will actually trap the water in your walls and eventually
lead to structural damage of your foundation. Then you
end up with not only a wet basement because your foundation
is cracked, but now your whole house is at risk because
your foundation is structurally unsound.
A qualified waterproofing professional
can help you decipher what plan of action is best
for your home and remedy your water problems.
