Basement Waterproofing Products

Basement waterproofing products have come a long way in the past few years, to help in the fight against wet basements.  Between crack injections, sump pumps, french drains, etc, there is a solution for most of you so that your basements can be waterproofed and dry for years to come.

Many contractors that specialize in the waterproofing of homes, usually also offer a lifetime guarantee to the part of the home that was waterproofed.  The guarantee usually does not include the sump pumps however, the pumps normally have a limited one year warranty.

Wet basements can be dealt with by purchasing and installing sump pumps into the lowest part of the home, or in the area where water is a problem.  Sump pumps are made in different ways as well, so you have a choice on how much protection you want waterproofing your wet basement. I will list the different choices that can be found for sump pumps.

  1. Sump pump

  2. Ultrasump Backup Sump Pump – this pump has a primary sump pump, but if that fails to operate and work, the ultra sump will run automatically.

  3. Triple Safe Sump Pump System – This system has 3 pumps to give you complete protection.  If the first pump fails, the second pump will take over.  In the event the first pump cannot keep up with the water flow into it, the second pump will switch on and the first and second pump will run simultaneously, to filtrate the water away from the foundation.  In case the power goes out in your home, the Ultra Sump battery backup pump takes over and starts to work automatically.

Basement foundations that have minor cracks can be sealed using a crack injection technique to remedy the problem.  Crack injections come in a couple different substances to be used, depending on what you need to seal up the crack.  Your choices are:

  1. Polyurethane injections

Polyurethane is flexible.  It will form a barrier that water cannot penetrate, but does not add any structural strength when it is applied and used to seal the crack.

  1. Epoxy injections

Epoxy injections can add strength to your foundation, as well as stopping water from seeping in through the cracks.

Waterproofed paneling is also an option for waterproofing a basement, that also improves the appearance of the basement as well.  BriteWall is a remedy for foundations where the water is seeping in though the walls, making the walls damp and musty.
