Basement
Waterproofing Methods
It
has been estimated that over 85% of homeowners will
have water issues in their basements at some point.
It is also estimated that over 44% of newly constructed
homes will have basement water problems
within the first 3 years!
That
is staggering to know, expecially since wet basements
can cause a multitude of problems to your home, as well
as to your family health. Luckily, there are many solutions
when it comes to waterproofing your basement
and home today!
The
first step before waterproofing your basement
is finding how and where the water is getting in. Is
it coming in through a window well? Seeping through
a wall? Maybe it is leaking through cracks in your home’s
foundation. Once that issue has been determined, the
next plan of action is what waterproofing method
is right for you and your home.
For
those of you that may have quite a bit of water getting
into your homes basement, a sump pump
and drainage system might be the way to go. You
can now purchase a pump that has a backup pump built
into it, so in the event the first pump fails or cannot
handle all the water, the second one backs it up.
You
can also buy a battery backup so if your power goes
out, the battery switches on automatically and starts
the sump pump.
If
water is seeping through your foundation walls, there
are protective coatings that can be sprayed or "painted"
on your walls to waterproof them. If you are looking
to brighten up and enhance your basements appearance,
you can also have waterproofed paneling
installed.
Crack
injections can be used to patch and seal cracks
and crevices in your floors and walls. Depending
on the size of the cracks, this can be an inexpensive
way to treat the problem areas.
With
whatever method you may choose, it is a good idea to
fix your wet basement water problem
as soon as it is noticed, or even before it becomes
an issue! In doing so, it will save you thousands
of dollars down the road, and create a healthy living
enviroment for your family.
