Minimize The Cost Of Your Damages NOW!

Don't worry. Follow these 7 steps and you be able to avoid increased damage and costs caused by the water in your basement.

Step 1

turn off the electric in your basement. Remember, water, electric and you DO NOT MIX. TO prevent any bodily harm, you'll want to do this first before going back down into the basement.

Step 2

Unplug electrical equipment from the outlets in the wall. Do a walkaround the walls and look for power outlets. Things that typically are electrical in the basement include:

    • Washers
    • Dryers
    • Refridgerators
    • Freezers
    • Fans
    • Lights
    • TV's
    • Stereo's
    • Portable Heaters
    • Computer Equipment

Whenever possible, move electrical equipment up off of the floor, and ontop of another surface that does not conduct electricity. A wooden shelf would be a good example of this.

Step 3

Move porous materials off of the floor and onto another surface. Materials that absorb water are prone to significant damage whenever water gets into your basement. Look around. You'll be able to see which items in your basement apply. A short list of things to look for include:

    • Magazines/Books
    • Throw Rugs
    • Blankets
    • Anything paper-based
    • Shoes and Clothing
